Wishlist Wednesday

Happy hump day! For a while I have been contemplating becoming a vegetarian.. but never came around to it. For a few reasons 1. I love meat 2. I'm addicted to hamburgers 3. I have low iron 4. I hate fruit 5. I can't cook and eat take out a lot and a few other reasons. I have seen multiple documentaries about the cruelty of farm animals and I have always wanted to stop eating meat. Last night I saw the most disturbing video that has really turned me off from meat. I'm not sure if I will be able to successfully transform into a vegetarian but I will take it one day at a time, there is no harm in trying. Today I turned down a roast beef sandwich so that is definitely at leap for me. If I realize I'm not able to do it I won't be disappointed because at least I know I attempted to make a change in my life. Right now I am totally turned off by meat so as long as I stay in this mentality I'll be okay.

It's Wishlist Wednesday! Here are a few things that I'm crushing on:

What's on your wish list?

Are you a vegetarian or thought about becoming one?

  1. I'm honestly contemplated being a vegetarian in an effort to lose weight. But I then I really thought about what meat I was eating. I was really only eating beef which was 93% fat, which the healthiest you can find at the super market and realized that wasn't that bad. I would suggest really thinking about how you feel after you eat meat too...that could be a swaying vote! =)

Ooo what a great wishlist! I love those mint shoes! A record player has been on my list for years! I really need to get one!

    1. I only have had some bad incidents with eating meat but I usually feel better after. A lot of foods don't make me full! But this is only day one so we will see how it goes :)

  3. I've been looking at those mint flats from Ruche too. I am a vegetarian and I used to have low iron. There are vegetarian sources of iron like soy beans and quinoa and limiting tea and coffee intake can help because polyphenols can somehow make it harder for the body to absorb iron. Those are just my vegetarian tips that fit into a comment. I've been vegetarian for 12 years and I've never looked back!

  7. I love that yellow polka dot blouse!!! I have so many blouses in that material though. I might be addicted. I don't think I'll stop until I have one in each color!

I used not to eat red meat, only chicken and fish. I definitely couldn't be a vegetarian for my love of salmon. It is beyond tasty when grilled. I'll only eat red meat if the boyfriend grills a steak. I HATE ground beef. It completely grosses me out. The smell and texture. Ugh...
Quinoa is good. Not sure if you have Trader Joes up there, but they have a bag of couscous mixed with a few other things, that is so delicious. I usually cook some up, then add in some sauteed veggies, and some organic meatballs cut up into small pieces, which you can skip. I stuff the mixture into bell peppers and cook them in the oven for 30 mins at 425 degrees. One of my all time favorite meals! You can also put it in zucchini.

    Hope that inspires you!

    1. Thank you for the tips! I am not a fan of bell peppers but it looks like I am going to have to try and expand my usual diet of chicken fingers and fries to bigger and better things.

  10. Oh gosh, I'm right there with you girl! I wish I could be a vegetarian but my mom's side of the family are all chicken farmers, so we eat chicken allll the time. But taking small steps is definitely the way to go. I don't eat any red meat and I haven't now for 11 years. It hasn't fazed me whatsoever. Go for it girl ;)

  11. I was a vegetarian for almost two years as a way to lose weight- (not for political or moral reasons). After a while I just couldn't keep my blood sugar up for some reason so I started eating meat again and gained all 40 pounds back... PLUS some! Boo!

  12. Our wishlist is so cute! My favorite wish is you wanting t go veg. I went vegan about two weeks ag and have never felt better, both in terms if health and ethics. If cooking isn't your thang, check out the Vegan Stoner's blog, lots of easy recipes here. And Kale had double the amount of iron beef does per calorie, so you can certainly subsist if you eat more then vegetarian prepared foods (although I wish I never learned Oreos are vegan!) Good luck! (Btw I just posted a vegan cheese dip recipe on my blog that's super yummy and fooled my omnivore friends!)
